Gus Miftah, the caretaker of the Islamic boarding school Ponpes Ora Aji Miftah Maulana Habiburahman, announced his resignation as the President’s Special Envoy. Addressing the recent scrutiny over his luxury watch, he clarified his stance during a live broadcast on CNN Indonesia on Friday, December 6, 2024.
According to Gus Miftah, he had only been in office for a month and a half and had not received any salary from the government to date. He emphasized that the possessions in question, including the watch, were acquired long before his appointment and he had not utilized any state facilities such as official residences.
His resignation followed a video circulating online in which he was seen belittling a seller of iced tea. Expressing sincere gratitude to President Prabowo for the trust placed in him, Gus Miftah stated that his decision to resign was made after deep contemplation, prayers, and consultations, solely driven by his profound respect and love for the President.
